I'll spell it out
The GOP image is in the toilet not just because they are viewed by most Americans as the party of crusty old white guys with 19th Century ideas for 21st Century problems, although that certainly is a problem for them. They are disgraced in large part due to walking in lock step with the disastrous administration of George Bush for eight years. THAT is what the rebranding idea was all about: Making the party no longer the party of George Bush. So who do they bring out? Jeb Bush!
This is an example of the level of intelligence that has been running the country for the last 8 years.
