There was an Irish Mob and a Jewish Mob, and Chinese Tongs. Today there are Israeli gangsters, Russian Mobsters, Somali and Indonesian pirates, Mexican drug lords, Columbian cartels, Cuban Cocaine Cowboys and Japanese Yakuza. Not to mention central American gangs, Bloods and Crips, Skinheads, Bikers, Gypsy families and all sorts of domestic, all-American organized gangsters as well. Some came from the old country, others developed here. Many (like the Mafia) originally started off as paramilitary militia organizations dedicated to protect their people from foreign invaders. The Islamic groups like the Taliban, Hamas, Fatah, Hezbollah etc already are gearing up for a post-Israeli conflict criminal existence, too.

Crime can go corporate just as business can, it need not be restricted to individual entrepreneurs. Immigrants usually breed their own criminal enterprises for two reasons, they have a captive immigrant population to prey on that is afraid or unable to go to the police for help and which it is difficult for the authorities to infiltrate, and which provides them with an endless supply of willing, impoverished recruits.

In fact, I believe those attractied to organized crime are very much the same personality types that are attracted to the business world. Isn't this what "The Godfather" and "The Sopranos" is really all about?
