Primates
Orangutans seem to be very individualistic loners, and don't run in heavily heirarchical tribes like a lot of other primates. That's already a point for them. That latter group obviously includes our ancestors, since human beings seem to be intensely uncomfortable unless they're either "boss ape" or "flunky ape." Human societies snap into totalitarianism with the ease of oxygen and hydrogen snapping into water. Free societies seem to be more like an ozone molecule. Look at it wrong and it's gone.
Wonder how we would have turned out if we'd evolved from something like an orangutan...
