Chris Matthews often employs him as his token Conservative, but in spite of some of the outrageous stuff he's said in the past, I do believe he's mellowed somewhat and often he speaks good sense, and quickly points out when the Libs opposite him get carried away into never-never land. Sometimes, I even catch myself agreeing with him, and even when I don't, I admire his integrity as a journalsit and the way he clearly distinguishes between his comments on tactics and strategy and his convictions on ideology. The fact his Neocon colleagues call him a "paleo-conservative" and blast him for not following the party line on a variety of issues only underscores my feeling that some on the right are more than just a concentrated solution of the others, but a more toxic substance altogether.
He is a good voice to listen to, and liberals ignore his insight at their peril.
