What did you mean it didn't work?

I think Bush and Co. effectively squelched the public's opinion by effectively blocking nationwide news AND media coverage of the massive anti-war demonstrations going on world wide and here at home before the war, and by putting police and local FBI agents on alert for ANY broadcasters and groups who were organizing against the war (remember the infiltrations, arrests, etc.?) I remember kids getting arrested for wearing anti-Bush T-shirts in malls, school teachers and students being detained at airports on purpose and heavily interrogated so they would MISS their Washington war demonstrations.
I remember Bush travelling heavily armed and protected, with TANKS even........ in one country. There was no expression and even rock bands (the Dixie Chicks come to mind) were publicly smeared as being anti-American because they spoke out against the war.

Then you have the othe side of the coin, of a large group of people who supported the war.
Even now, I see it's easier to "fit in" by just going along with the Limbaugh brain, especially in the south.
God, country, them's "fighten words"; and they can't see or understand where we're coming from.
