We live in a more regulated society now because we live in a more complex society, and one where business has access to technological tools and economic power unheard of in the horse and buggy days you constantly lionize. We also live in a society where communication and marketing, as well as lobbies and trade associations, give businesses unprecedented control of the market and of government. And most importnt, the type of commercial organization that seems to be the wave of the future, the giant multinational corporation, is a mindless machine for making money answerable to no one except other corporations that are also mindless machines.
You do not believe this, but I do. And I will support the kind of government I believe supports my interests the most. Your world is not one I want to live in.
