What is your motivation, why this crusade? What have we done to deserve your personal instruction?
I have answered that in the past. Think of it as a study in human politics, and its evolution over even my own lifetime. The parameters are not what they used to be, and I'm trying to figure out what they are. What really is a "moderate" in 2009? A "leftist?" A "rightist?" Sure as hell these categories aren't what they were when I was in college, and the lines aren't simply drawn.
When I read that article on Roosevelt, I was struck by how much new territory he had to explore. The idea of the government as a major source of support was a new one back then, and even FDR had to feel his way through it. Now the government has become the first resort instead of the last one, and the idea of doing things any other way is becoming outlandish.
If I seem to lean on you a bit harder, it might be because you have characteristics and a family history that should make you a canary in this particular coal mine, and yet, even with the gas building up, the canary still sings.
I test the waters continuously with items from the news. Increasing levels of control. At what point would someone here say, "this far, and no farther?" Mostly nothing. Not even from people arguably more conservative than you are.
Maybe you want a less-convoluted answer: So why do people argue with Johannes through an entire thread? Do they think he's going to say "Wow...looks like you have a point, there?"
