Dramatic overhaul and reform is absolutely necessary
The biggest reason is simply the staggering cost of healthcare in America, and the ever larger portion of the economy it consumes annually. Even if we can manage it down to single digits, medical and prescription drug costs trends still outstrip overall inflation by a very wide margin each year, and are predicted to do so for the foreseeable future. It's just simple math - we can't afford to have healthcare growing to 20%, 30%, 40% of the nation's economic activity...
