Insurance companies and drug companies are huge GOP donors who benefit from the status quo. The only health care reform Bush did was hand the drug companies a hugely profitable government program. Energy independence? We import more oil now than at 911, and we know where the Bush family has made its fortune.
In 2008, UnitedHealth gave twice as much to Democrats as Republicans. As a whole, the industry breakdown was 60-40 in favor of Democrats.
"Energy independence" will require more than windmills. It wasn't Bush or the Republicans who have been trying, and lately succeeding, in shutting down domestic oil and gas development and nuclear energy. I will be willing to bet that four years from now, we will be importing at least as much oil as we are right now, because liberal bong hallucinations aren't going to be delivering the power and fuel a growing American economy will need.
