"Life would be more dangerous if there were colonies in space."
We are already living on a colony in space, a giant nearly spherical one
almost eight thousand miles across with almost 7 billion human passengers
aboard zipping through space for the last 5 billion years at over
66,000 MPH.
Plan on getting off or stopping the experiment any time soon?
The comments in this thread are just this side of "Let's spend our money
and focus on Earth 'cause we have so many problems we need to fix
first!"
Humans are messy creatures, but we are also smart and have gotten
through more than even I imagined, such as a nuclear war. Yes, I know
it could still happen, but if anyone who lived during the Cold War would
tell you that the possibility for Armageddon was present every day.
There will always be problems no matter what we do, but turning away
from the one place that might actually save our species and allow us
to truly grow because of a few perceived jerks is the real crime here.
Too bad everything got so pessimistic after the 1960s, when our views
of the future went from gleaming cities and vacations on the Moon to
dystopias and survivors skimming through the rubble after an atomic
holocaust and Soylent Green. This is a big reason why we have this
thread going the way it is.
Either strive for a better future despite humanity's past or just get out
the way and let the ones who want to attempt it do so.
