Mostly businessmen

TB, you've fantasized this entire UN collectivist regulatory cabal and its associated climatologist's conspiracy of fear (not to mention the sinister collaboration of the world's artists, intellectuals, celebrities, journalists and academics) because without it there is simply no reason for any of us to take anything you say seriously. Everyone here likely to fall for this nonsense is already convinced. The rest of us are not about to do so under any circumstances.

No one here is going to have their mind changed, and if you are using this forum to reach those with little scientific training by convincing them that there is still a vigorous debate in scientific circles on this issue, for your personal ideological reasons, that is both misleading and irresponsible. Not everyone who tunes in here occasionally is familiar with your predictably extreme partisan positions on every single issue.

For those who have no training or specialized knowledge in the field of climatology, or are otherwise not qualified to evaluate the data independently, but are still capable of independent thought and have some training in science and critical thinking, there are only two factors which need be considered.

1) We cannot continue to denude vast areas of earth's vegetation and cavalierly dump millions of tons of pollutants into the atmosphere without running the risk of causing some change in the climate, and that change will likely manifest itself as weather modification which could threaten the human race's agricultural and settlement patterns. Evidence that this is indeed happening is the consensus of those in a position to know, even though you do everything you can to undermine that. Is climate change an absolutely sure thing? Perhaps not, science doesn't work that way, but to suggest there is no potential problem is misleading, to claim it is obviously some sinister plot of people who don't share your politics is irresponsible.

2) If there is anyone with a vested interest, financial or political, to influence policy for self-serving reasons, it is those who wish to continue the status quo and frustrate all attempts to develop a sound environmental policy. That is the industrial complex that currently benefits enormously from the current fossil fuel economy and from its existence, perpetuation, and uninterrupted and unresticted growth. They have the motive: billions in profits to protect; the means: the financial resources to influence public and political opinion; and the opportunity: lobbyists, politicians, public relations, media advertising and folks like you, who feel an ideological need to support and further the policies of that narrow but very powerful special interest group.

It's that simple.
