The Internet and other modern communication technologies have really changed things

Yes, yes, the youth have always been rebelling against their elders
going back to ancient times, but we now have what no one else had
before us: Instant methods of global communication. We can now get
information and data with a few clicks on the keyboard that before
would have sent us on a long trip to the library.

Add to this the stuff that can now be seen on television that even ten
years ago would have been banned immediately (Family Guy comes
immediately to mind here, but even the Disney Channel now does pee
and fart jokes on what are supposed to be kids' programs), and we have
a society of youngsters who know some things far sooner than they
should, if ever and think that being rude and crude is both funny and
socially acceptable.

So, no, it is not quite the same ball game that it used to be. Just wait
for when virtual reality becomes more sophisticated and commonplace.
Then we will have entire societies who never leave their rooms or talk
to actual people ever again. Why deal with reality when you can invent
your own. It is already happening with the Sims and such.
