Did replicator technology make money unnecessary because anything could be instantly created for free?

I don't know if that would work or not. Our technology is orders of magnitude more productive than it used to be, but we all still have to pay for stuff, and work in order to get money to pay for it. Sure, our standard of living is better, but is it "orders of magnitude" better?

No, I think if we lived in the Star Trek universe, we still would have to go to work and still have to pay for the stuff coming out of the replicators. Nothing is free as long as someone can figure out a way to charge you for it.
