It's always scared me,
that the American military's great wealth and mastery of the technologies of resupply, transport and communications has made it overly dependent on profligate firepower and air supremacy. We have no fire discipline, and seem to train our infantry to fight in wars where they are always the far stronger force. Other branches of the military are not as susceptible to this, ships and planes usually face more evenly matched foes, and saving American lives by using our overwhelming force is always a good thing; but having to call in an airstrike to take out a machinegun nest, or even a sniper, seems to me like a very bad habit to get into.
