Leftists are just fine with Marxist-style totalitarianism. For most of my life, "progressives" squalled about the lack of rights in places like South Africa, and ignored communist nations where every last inhabitant was treated just like South African black people.

On the other side of the coin, for many years our own government (Democrat and Republican) was just fine with totalitarian thugocracies as long as they were anticommunist. Or pretended to be for our benefit.

I hope we might someday generate political movements and leaders that support freedom and oppose tyranny on basic principles, not just political expediency and gang loyalty.
