Yes, really
The Great Depression sorta fits the economic meltdown. However, there weren't two wars being lost at the same time, there wasn't the massive debt and trade deficits, foreign powers didn't hold the US economy hostage with more debt.
Not 100% of course but certainly a lot of analogies. If you notice I said the GD-WWII generation, so yes we were in two wars (against Germany and Japan) and were losing for a while (it's questionable to say we are losing two wars now as Iraq has been stabilized and we are on the way out, and Afghanistan is in a new phase of operations).
As for Debt, at the end of WWII out debt was 130% of our GDP, today it is 80%. There were no comparable trade deficits because there was no global trade on any comparable level ( a fact that contributed greatly to WWII occurring). Foreign powers holding US debt is a bit different but our debt is still denominated in our own currency, which ultimately gives us control over it's size.
