How much would a manned Mars mission cost if we stripped it down to
the essentials and assumed the crew would return?
Though personally I think when it comes to sending humans into deep
space they should start setting up colonies from the get-go.
I am asking because while we say we don't want another Flags and
Footprints set of missions like Apollo, other nations and private space
companies may not feel that way and may be planning the most basic,
cost-effective mission to put their own people on the Red Planet. I am
just wondering what they would do to make that happen?
I would also like to see some NEO missions, as securing space rocks with
all their valuable resources will be a priority as move out of LEO.

- IMHO, unmanned probes are MUCH more effective per dollar than manned probes.
