Those who are determined to discredit the kids are desperate to find, devise or improvise something, anything, they can attack the kids with. They are blind to how petty and mean they come across, and how ludicrous their conspiracy theories are. Its like the evangelicals who make excuses for Trump's misogyny, libertinism and un-Christian behavior, or the fiscal conservatives who are watching the budget deficits soar past even the most extreme Obama levels, or the super patriots who are trying to justify his Russia policy. They cannot afford to admit to themselves how thoroughly they have been conned, and how much they have abandoned their own principles and beliefs in order to follow their hero. They have too much invested in the lie to afford any second thoughts. So they will continue to follow him, straight to hell. Think: Jim Jones and the Cyanide Kool-Aid cocktail.
The funny thing is that Parkland is an upscale, upper middle class neighborhood, and the school, although integrated, is predominantly white and affluent. This is not the demographic the wingnut Right wants to alienate.
