I keep hearing the chattering classes saying that if these charges manage to gain any traction at all against Kavenaugh, that Republican voters will lose confidence in him and their party and not vote in the mid-terms.
But I suspect just the opposite. The Deplorables will get so panicky about losing their SCOTUS insurance that they will turn out in droves to make sure the GOP runs the table in November. They won't care whether or not he's guilty, they'll just want him out there to make the world safe for Creationism and Life.
Meanwhile, in the great capitals of Europe, statesmen and ministers are listening to the news coming out of Washington and weeping silently to themselves. In the Kremlin and Beijing the Champagne corks are popping and the bubbly is flowing. Rome is burning and the barbarians are at the gates.
