Flame » in reply to And I disagree

I guess I just take human rights, attacks on our democracy, and the homicide of hundreds of thousands of Americans a bit more seriously than you...

The harm that the election of Trump did to our nation was foreseeable...it was obvious to everyone that he was a narcissistic bigot that would flout the constitution and the law. Those that voted for him in 2016 were perfectly aware they were voting for a corrupt bigot- they were aware of the birther lie he promulgated... they can't claim ignorance. They voted for him anyway because they either LIKED the bigotry, the appeals to strongman tactics, the contempt for laws and norms... OR they were happy to tolerate it because it would really piss off the libs.

Perhaps you, Vitruvius, were one of these people- in which case your appeals to forgive and forget would ring especially hollow.

Those that supported Trump in this election, doubled down... they were willing to support Trump despite the needless deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans- why? Because they loved the normalization of racism and the freedom it brought them to air their fetid racist views in public without fear ... they loved that the deplorable was now celebrated and had real power... they need no longer feel ashamed for being the worthless pieces of shit that they know they are... they had permission to rub their filth in the faces of all those decent people that refused to tolerate them.

They would do anything to hold onto that- even if it meant the deaths of millions of Americans.

I see a few liberals on my facebook feed echoing your call to forgive and forget, and I respond to them just as harshly. They all have one thing in common- they are straight, white, middle-class - in short they weren't the ones that had targets on their backs the past 4 years... they - like you- can go fuck themselves. They have simply decided that they aren't being made uncomfortable enough to go and rock the boat.... sure others are being killed, forcibly sterilized, kidnapped and murdered and oppressed in their name, but it is not personally impacting their lives, so its easy not to take it personally.

I will not apologize for taking what has been done personally. Anyone that cares for their fellow human beings SHOULD - MUST- take it personally.

The 'don't rock the boat', 'Forgive-and-forget' crowd like to to smugly claim they are taking the high road- and pretend they are good people for advocating for kindness for Trump supporters... Yet where were their voices when the victims of the Trump supporters were being victimized? Where was their defense of those victims?

They were not taking the high road, they were were being exactly what fascists need- people who know what is being done is wrong, but unwilling to take on the trouble of condemning it...

Where was YOUR voice, Vitruvius?

I know where RobVG's voice was:

So no... I will save my kindness for their victims. For those that fought for these atrocities I will remember them and their crimes and treat them accordingly.

That does not make me a 'nutcase' - it just means I take crimes like these seriously, I take it personally.

It says something about you if you don't.
