You have a neighbor, and one day he is beaten, his children are kidnapped and his remaining family is threatened.
As you are talking about the tragedy with others neighbors in the neighborhood meeting about the events, one of them pipes up:
"I don't see what the big deal is- I think he DESERVED all that happening to him... he deserves the loss of his children, the death threats, the beatings- in fact, I actively support all that and more happening to him, and many others in this neighborhood"
The meeting explodes with people understandably condemning the speaker- calling him the sick fuck that he is- would you Vitruvius, demand that everyone calm down and treat the speaker with respect- he has his right to speak his opinion without being called a monster?
Of course you wouldn't... you would agree he is a monster, not only would you condemn him, you most likely look for legal (and possibly extra-legal) ways to get a monster like that out of your neighborhood. You would make sure he never felt welcome.
So how far away does your victimized neighbor have to live before you feel the one celebrating his abuse should be treated kindly and with kid gloves?
The humanity of the victim does not change with distance. The inhumanity of the crimes and those that support them does not change when its done under the guise of a political movement.
There is not really much difference in the degree of guilt of those that physically commit the crime and those that support it, those that aid and abet the crimes.
Your position is exactly what fascists count on... and the fact that you have convinced yourself that its a virtue changes nothing.

- I'm tired of talking about this. It is just too painful to contemplate any more.
