On my radio dial is 105.9 WMAL which hosts nonstop right wing talk radio on weekdays Chris Plante, Dan Boningo (who took over the time slot when Rush Limbaugh went to meet his Defecator), Mark Levin and others.

Right next to that on 105.5 is Radio Sputnik- Russia's international propaganda arm.

One Friday it was clear that vaccine/mask mandates was the designated talking point for right wing radio - They all had that as the focus of their show that day, interestingly so did the Radio Sputnik show I listened to...

Of course Radio Sputnik and the right wing radio were selling the same message- Vaccine mandates are evil and totalitarian, vaccines may be dangerous, NO ONE has the right to have vaccine mandates that can limit where unvaccinated people can go, employers have no right to require employees to be vaccinated, schools have no right to require vaccinations for their students... blah blah blah... The messages were identical, however the marketing of the messages was distinctly different. They were trying to sell the message to two very different audiences.

The right wing radio was selling it to an ignorant audience that is PROUD of their ignorance, an audience that has a contempt for the intellectual eggheads trying to save their lives. An audience that believes their 'common sense wisdom' outweighs any number of experts that have spent a lifetime studying these issues. The people they are marketing to live on red meat and outrage, they consider 'intellectual' an epithet, and are proud that the only words they read are what is spoon fed to them by the algorithms on facebook.

In contrast, Radio Sputnik is targeting a very different audience. They are going after idiots that consider themselves to be intellectuals. Folks that were told they have an IQ of maybe 110 and think they know better than the common man- people that smugly think they can see through the scam Fauci and the world health experts are trying to pull...

Both the right wing radio and Sputnik play their respective target audience expertly.

Right wing radio plays on unfocused outrage and resentments - insisting their country is being stolen from them.

Sputnik strokes their egos- smugly insisting WE are too smart to fall for the pro-vaccine propaganda, it's arrogant of them to think they could put one over on US, WE see through all that, and here we will make out of context literary references to back up our contempt for their schemes, and since you are all so smart we know you will appreciate them...

Right wing radio has billions of dollars behind them, running focus groups to see how best to market the message. Radio Sputnik has the Russian state backing them up, and their professional propagandists calculating how to make the messages maximally seductive to pseudo-intellectuals.

Two large segments of our society are being surgically targeted by experts in propaganda, with nearly unlimited resources backing them up.

And the truth has only the facts, facts that many people simply do not want to hear- it isn't seductive, in fact it can often be plain ugly.

And so you can guess which one more and more Americans choose to take home....
