The reason I didn't care for "Saddles"...

...is that they overdid the redneck racist satire. Yes, I concur with the sentiment, but Brooks pounded it so hard that I believe it had just the opposite of the intended effect. Of course, subtlety was never Mel's forte.

But you're right, Wilder's "Frankenstein' was pitch-perfect. And the rest of the cast was right on target. That whole movie was a finely crafted comedic gem, sending up every cliche in the Hollywood Frankenstein trope. And Teri Garr never looked lovelier.

'High Anxiety' was a brilliant, but devastating, satire on psychiatry and psychology. But it was gentle, subtle, and consequently, much more effective.
