One of the most important aspects of Pax Americana was our willingness to serve as the economic engine of the world. We kept our markets open even when others didn't always do the same, and American consumers had the purchasing power to keep the world economy growing because we had a strong, relatively affluent middle class.
In the last decade however there has been a massive transfer of wealth from the middle class to the wealthiest top 1%. This matched with the great recession (which was caused by greed in the unregulated financial markets) has diminished America's ability to serve as that engine of growth. Our middle class has shrunk. So if Pax Americana is to exist, as a nation we MUST re-implement the policies that helped create that middle class to begin with.
