Argentina has a long history of Fascism.
Why do you think all those Nazis moved there after WWII?
And it wasn't all that long ago that the Junta was on the rampage, waging war on journalists and college students. Unfortunately for them, they picked a fight with the Royal Navy, and they shoot back. Peron and Evita were fascists/populists, the roots go way back.
Argentina is the most "European" of all Latin American societies, and the country is rich in natural resources and a well-educated, urban population. In spite of that, they've always been bankrupt. Contrary to popular belief, under fascism, the trains don't necessarily run on time.
