The morning after the night before
It would be nice to think that this silliness would stop the day the Big Event arrived and nothing happened, but history has shown us innumerable end of the world scenarios that have come and gone and no one seemed to learn anything from them.
The scary thing is that there are many realistic and genuine end of the world scenarios, some are possible, some probable, others inevitable (like a big impactor strike) if we wait long enough. And people tend to ignore these.
