From Utah, just west of Arches National Park (one of my favorite places on this planet), a quarry of dinosaur bones that researchers believe was the site of a drying out lake bed. What's weird, is that the bones are all smashed into pieces. The explanation is rather gross.
I'm assuming these bones are coming from the Morrison Formation, which has to be the weirdest rock unit in the Southwest. It outcrops here in the Front Range, down near Canon City there is a famous fossil quarry, and in my neighborhood, it outcrops not far from here, but without significant fossils. In Utah, the Morrison Formation exhibits all of its weirdness: blue shale with interbeds of river gravels of different colored stones. I've found gastroliths (Dinosaurs would ingest round rocks to aid their digestion) and coprolites (Dino poo). If you ever get the chance to go to Arches, try to find some of the trails that take you through the Morrison Formation, you'll never forget it; especially after a rain storm, when the blue shales really stand out.
