if the harsher life of even a few centuries ago selected for such splendid physical specimens, then it can be argued that people were probably a lot smarter back then too. after all, in those days, strong, clever people lived longer and had more children than frail, dumb ones. today, neither mental nor physical prowess translates to more offspring inheriting your traits and passing them on.

so if evolution is working today, what is it selecting for? automobile driving skills? resistance to carcinogen toxicity?
