Enslaving the productive, or cutting capitalism off at the knees while demanding it produce more, has not worked well in other places it's been tried. But then historical knowledge and logic are not leftist virtues.
The government doesn't create wealth, or jobs. Every government salary is paid for by someone in the private sector who produces surplus wealth. Destroying surplus wealth does not help this situation. Slashing the salaries of the rich does not produce more tax revenue. Killing incentives to produce does not create production.
The modern Democratic Party is economically illiterate at best, and economically insane at worst. Destroying capitalism and capitalists will not create prosperity, and since examples and counterexamples of this have been glaringly obvious over the past century, the only other alternative for those who still believe it is self-delusion.
