McCrystal's request is based on a strategy that may no longer be valid. The situation in Afghanistan is a mess both militarily and politically. If there is a redefinition of the mission underway it makes sense to complete that before making a decision on how many more troops are introduced. That Obama is taking the time to get opinions and recommendations from ALL the military and civilian advisers, and not just one general, is a sign of responsible leadership. I'm sure you think it's "responsible" to immediately rush 40k more troops in without considering what effect that has on an already strained and exhausted military, but personally I'm glad our president is taking the time to get this decision right. And please, don't try to imply military defeat is imminent in the next few weeks.
