Film Piracy

Last Sunday on 60 minutes they did a story on film piracy. Now I'm not in favor of piracy, and can't understand why people buy these crumby videos filmed by a camcorder off the theater screen, but I doubt the film industries data that says they are losing billions due to piracy. I doubt that the people who buy that junk would pay the money to go to the theater anyway, so what's the loss there. They must assume that people who by a bogus DVD would never go see it in the theater so it's not that big a loss. I don't think their loses even approaches a billion dollars. I would be surprised if it was half that.

I never have and never will buy a bogus DVD. I go to the movies in the theaters all the time because I like to see a movie the way it was meant to be seen. I prefer a digital projection but most theaters are still resisting digital projection. Even in these hard economic hard time, just as in the depression of the 1930s, people still like to go to the movies in a theater. To say they are losing billions to piracy is wild speculation.
