Another thing is the difference between European, Arian, launches, and American, Shuttle, launches. I notice that European launches ignite their engines at T-zero and don't liftoff for several seconds, and Americans ignite their engines first then liftoff at T-zero. I suppose it makes no difference as long as you know what the timing is.
