Now that you've sufficiently explained yourself...
I went to bed thinking last night you were trying to pull one over on me. In the previous post you didn't mention it had floated only 100 feet over your head. The way you narrated it, it sounded like you could see the damn thing clearly 2 ridges away, which is a lot more than half a mile.
What would I have thought? Probably a balloon, as I've seen plenty of them carried along by the wind. I don't usually carry binoculars, nor am I aware of my surroudings because my vocation doesn't depend on it. However, I am sky and cloud watcher.
BTW, my close encounter was with three other witnesses. And it wasn't no damned balloon. 😉
