Whoa, Dude!

No one's advocating violence, and I know you don't feel that way about it. But your post is a bit scary. What you can do is to quit blaming all the world's problems on people who disagree with you politically and be ready to attack your own side when they shoulder part of the blame, as I believe you can see on this particular issue.

Are liberals beating you over the head with the compassion/self-righteous card? (Mixed metaphor alert!) Sure they are, I'm a liberal and a Hispanic and I don't like it or the immigration mess any more than you do. My people came here legally and busted their butts to fit in, sometimes against vicious discrimination, and we did it without being traitors to our culture or to our adopted country. When I argue this issue with my political compatriots I remind them of that and it usually shuts them right up. But I gave up arguing with conservatives.

Nothing is black and white, all conflicts exhibit shades of gray, and maybe we could all benefit by trying to see both sides. We certainly might make more headway with our political opponents that way than we can by simply attacking them on general principles, like I see on this board. It's why I don't post as much as I used to, no one wants to talk, they just want to win.

Remember when S I Hayakawa got in trouble in California by advocating English as the official language? (That may have been before your time). He was very effective because, unlike his bleeding heart liberal opponents, he was of immigrant stock and spoke a foreign language.

It's all right having liberal or conservative opinions on any issue, but when declaring yourself left or right immediately characterizes your position on EVERY issue, then democracy in America is finished.
