I'm not a Southerner, although I have spent a lot of time below the Mason-Dixon. Couple years back, Mrs. P. and I were travelling in the Carolinas and stopped at a small gas station to refuel. At the counter, they were selling a cheaply printed tabloid called "The Un-Civil Civil War." While mostly inspiring chuckles at the long held anger that can still exist in southern states, there was a fair amount of historical information that I had not known about before, amoung those was the Tariff of 1828.
The story is always more complicated than our history teachers taught us, except my high school poly-sci teacher, who would lecture that all wars are fought over resources, economics, or religion. Or a combination thereof.
