(Damn, I had to reconfigure this forum to show more topics, to bring this one to the front page. How far back do you go looking for threads to work?)
I think you're straining a bit to diss MSNBC. The talking heads don't write headlines, so attacking Contessa Brewer was a pretty cheap shot. Though MSNBC is probably the only news org that used that precise wording (and when I googled it, 858 wingers were diddling themselves with hilarity over it), but I've seen a lot of other people struggling to find a simple way to express the complexity of the situation.
There are multiple jurisdictions involved, and I'll bet that until now, Arizona didn't have a law criminalizing entering the state without proper paperwork, given that such a law was already on the federal books.
Or try an example closer to home: Up until Proposition 215 passed, Federal and California law were roughly in harmony in excluding even medicinal use of marijuana. But then California law changed, and in the spirit of winger silliness, a new situation holds true: It is legal in California for certain people to smoke an illegal drug.
Get it?
