How long could a satellite be designed to work?

Does the technology exist to build a communications satellite that could last for around 500 years or so. It wouldn't have to handle massive amounts of traffic, just be robust enough to last for a long period of time. Any extrasolar colony would need such satellites until they got their population and industrial base up and running.
