As long as we have 2 strong hands, we can always grab our own ass and kiss it goodbye. That's my disaster preparation.
I don't live near a big city, so I can forage for food. It's still my dream to get a little house up here with a garden, and I am moving towards that end.
We have a lot of community farms and co-ops and this area is very avant garde when it comes to sharing and helping out. You can still drink the water coming right out of the mountain springs.
