Tom, there is no Randian Paradise. There never was and never will be. It can't happen because businessmen are greedy and workers are lazy, and both will work feverishly in a democracy from letting it happen. It is in no one's short-term interest to live within their means or pay their bills. Unless you impose your fiscal responsibility at bayonet point so everyone contributes fairly to it it will never materialize. What is happening in Greece right now is a government analogue of what business did in Wall Street in 2008 and 1929. We're lucky we've been able to blunder into the relative freedom and affluence we have now, but that has been the result of trial and error, struggle, and lots of hard work and even violence, not ideological purity.
What country in the world operates the way you'd like it to? What country in history? And don't say the USA in the past because 1) It was a Dickensian sweatshop, and 2) Conservatives have always complained about how socialist things are becoming; it's never been "free" enough for them and they've always opposed any progress that threatened their economic hegemony. Even your imaginary post-colonial paradise in an empty and unspoiled North America was only made possible by slavery and theft from the aboriginals, and it only benefitted a few "gentlemen of property".
The world you say is disappearing is a pathetic science fiction fantasy that never was, just like the socialist paradise the Marxists keep promising us is just around the corner. It's not wrong, it's just impossible.
