I think that so far we've only learned of the tip of the iceberg of the Bush "legacy". Or "curse", in plain English.
How about that Minerals Management Service, eh? If it turns out to be true that BP lied about the volume of oil and that it's an Exxon Valdez per week, Bush's legacy will include the worst manmade environmental disaster the planet's ever known.
How is it Bush's legacy, you shriek? Well, to be precise, it's Cheney's. The MMS was established in 1982 and by all accounts plodded along doing its job until it was "improved" by Cheney's furtive Energy Task Force in 2001. In close consultation with the oil industry it was supposed to regulate, they "reorganized" the MMS along more industry-friendly lines. As we discovered a few years later, that meant, among other things, staffing the Bush-Cheney MMS with crack hos to party with the industry reps to keep them happy.
It's about time Obama's standing up and telling the truth about the disasters he inherited. His newfound courage coincides with one of the right's most ridiculous smear campaigns ever, trying to call the Gulf oil spill "Obama's Katrina".
Funny thing about that. Have you noticed that in order to claim disasters on Obama's watch are analogous to disasters on Bush's watch, you finally have to admit the disasters on Bush's watch? And not just admit them, but make them into superlatives that only Obama's awfulness can surpass. The oil spill isn't just any disaster, it's a disaster so big it eclipses the Bush administration handling of Katrina. It's that bad!
The right's so funny it's killing us.
