BP turns corner on spill?

No doubt you've heard the news; BP reports partial success in siphoning off part of the oil leak. It's good news, but now everything depends on the weather holding and this stopgap measure being upgraded until the leak is fully under control.

Hurricane season begins officially in June, but tropical storms are rare until late summer or early fall. This time of year weather is pretty good in the Gulf,
the last of the winter and spring northers and frontal systems are usually past by now, and weather is pretty good except for afternoon thunderstorms. However, I don't know how critical sea state is to this pumping operation and this is not a stable platform, or a ship designed to motor in place. I presume the pumping will be onto barges that will towed away when full, and the water is too deep to anchor. But at least this jury-rig might be able to stop the hemorrhage until the hole can be plugged and a relief well drilled.

Keep your fingers crossed.
