I'm beginning to think it's almost impossible to go into politics in a major way without burning something out of your brain, first. Or your soul, if you lean that direction.
Remember the movie The Candidate?
Like anyone I will support particular men and women for political office, but am anything but surprised if they either already have, or quickly develop, feet of clay. It's not universal - a few people (from all parts of the political spectrum) manage to hold out against the pressures - but the devolution is too common to want to trust people with too much power.
