WHERE DID YOU GET THAT IMAGE?
Please tell me you photoshopped it from my description, because
if it exists out there independent of my stoned reveries of the 1970s
that is asking too much of coincidence. Where is Lindy when you
need her?
Copping a buzz after a hard day at school (I was an Astronomy grad
student at the time), my roommates and I would often play "Echoes"
in the dark, fantasizing and constructing elaborate daydreams to the music.
The alien veldt sequence was one of my favorites, it seemed to fit the
rhythmic part of the tune that stretches from about time 7:00 in
Podrock's video to about time 11:00. I remember it all distinctly,
indeed the "alien giraffes" pop into my mind every time I hear "Echoes",
or it is mentioned in conversation.
The similarities of my daydream to the image you displayed are so eerily similar that
it is easier to talk about the differences. My "creatures" were definitely
not giraffes, but resembled them in general appearance, thin, long-necked and long-legged.
And the ground they ran on was an endless, featureless plain
of knee-high grass, stretching to an infinite horizon, and waving in the wind. The beasts run in panic,
as if pursued by some unseen predator, with the same loping stride characteristic of giraffes,
in perfect time to the music.
The image you displayed really shook me up. There is absolutely no way it could have
unconsciously influenced my memory. My image came from my distant past, long before there was
an internet or Photoshop, and the colors and that horrible star hanging in the sky are straight
from my own subconscious.
