Which brings us to...

What actually makes up human consciousness? In the Star Trek universe (Data's trial), it was self-awareness. But what goes into that self-awareness? Where does it come from? Is there some little electrical spark that ignites consciousness? Or is it simply a matter of brain complexity? Does a cat have self-awareness? How can we prove it does or doesn't?
