I dated a Navy guy. Love of my life. I kept wanting his P Coat. What DOES the P in P coat stand for?

My guy hated the uniform and hated the Navy. He was enlisted but college educated and very intelligent. I think he thought he was above it all which actually doesn't say much for him. He worked in meteorology, what he called the "home of the weather-guessers."
