Thanks,
I'm used to all the drivers being at hand, either in a folder installed by the OS, or available through Win Update. For some reason, Laptops seem a little different. (Somebody straighten me out on this)
A few months ago I did a clean XP install on a friends Dell Inspirion. (Laptop) By googling I learned that I needed to install the wireless connection driver, or I'd be dead in the water.
That worked fine, but Win Update couldn't find a single driver needed. I eventually was directed to a Dell driver site, where I met with some, but not total success. At least with Dell Laptops, the drivers seem strictly proprietary, and must be installed in a specific order.
With the orphan VAIO, there's no ethernet jack, and the wireless card isn't talking. I'm going to assume, XP is able to use the original Win 2000 Japanese drivers.
I found the driver for the wireless card (Linksys WPC54G) burned it to a CD, and tried to load it, but XP doesn't see the card, and the Wireless Connection Wizard is missing from Control Panel.
That is pretty strange.
