I wonder, are you afraid of commenting for being labeled a racist? Looking the other way for some other reason? Is talking about issues of race too uncomfortable for you? Maybe you think an honest reaction would exacerbate the situation or there is some kind of moral high ground you're taking by not expressing "anything".
No one is even calling for talks about the "root causes"- anywhere. Is it possible it's because the ones we think of no longer exist? At least not in this situation.
