Retirement accounts
Anybody within 15 years of retirement should be re-balancing their accounts away from equities and toward places with less growth but more stability. I've been working on this for about a year now, shifting my balance to more conservative investments. I still have equity, but not as much as a few years ago. Most of my stocks are indexed mutual funds. Not very exciting, but broadly invested.
Unfortunately, "cash" accounts are about as lucrative as putting your money in a mattress, but it isn't going anywhere if stocks slide. I've had pretty good luck with a few bond funds.
