Perplexing Question (originally from Mysteries of the Multiverse)
I was reading Scientific American just now about gravity transformers(friggin' awesome topic), and saw that a critic of the idea was complaining that the guy "never put numbers into his research". Now don't get me wrong, number theory is an essential part of science and the guy should come up with some figures quick, but that's not what I wanted to talk about. Since i've been seeing a lot about early human evolution lately, i've been thinking about the thought process.
Now i'm wondering, waht came first: Reasoning or counting? In other words, did we come up with the scientific process first, or did the idea of amounts (numbers) come up before that? It'd be very enlightening to get some feedback on this topic.
