"Darwin-Mendelism" now replaces "Darwinism" in my lexicon in recognition of the fact that Natural Selection is only half of the mechanism of Evolution. The other half is Heredity, which Gregor Mendel discovered. Darwin's notions of Heredity were completely erroneous. Mendel deserves enormous credit for being decades ahead of his time in elucidating this most important of mysteries.

Interestingly enough, Mendel sent Darwin a copy of his (Mendel's) epic paper on Heredity. It was discovered, after Darwin's death, on his bookshelf, still unopened.

One wonders what would have happened if Darwin had read Mendel's paper and incorporated it into his theory.
